Deutsche Telekom’s Innovation Labs set out to unify how data was accessed and used across national companies. The portal bridges the gap between data scientists and business stakeholders, enabling faster insight and scalable knowledge sharing.

We designed a central platform for the Chief Data Office that helps teams discover datasets, track quality, and collaborate more efficiently.

The portal helped Deutsche Telekom cut friction across its data workflows – enabling faster discovery, better team alignment, and clearer business visibility. With a scalable and future-proof interface, the platform now supports cross-national collaboration and allows both scientists and business leads to act on data with greater confidence and speed.

The starting point was complexity – fragmented systems, unclear dataset reliability, and slow communication between teams. Data scientists spent more time verifying sources than analysing them, and business managers lacked visibility into project progress and value.

We ran interviews with researchers, managers, and local IT teams to map pain points and workflows. From this, we defined core needs: fast dataset discovery, clear quality signals, better collaboration tools, and access that worked across national entities.

The shift from manual, multi-layered data access to an automated, self-serve system via the CDO Portal.

User dashboards surface project stats, updates, and collaboration invites while showcasing featured data initiatives and governance support.

The Explore view helps users filter, search, and bookmark high-impact data science projects by objective, region, and language.

We designed a clean enterprise interface with tailored dashboards for different user types – from technical staff to leadership. Structured data views helped users see completion status and relevance at a glance, while built-in commenting and project tracking fostered transparency across teams.

Our design system followed modular patterns so features could scale, and we tested each iteration with real users. Insights from usability sessions helped fine-tune how data was surfaced, filtered, and acted upon.

The final product connected previously siloed teams and created a shared digital environment for Deutsche Telekom’s growing data network.
